There were 4 pairs representing Sydney Bridge Centre to compete in the 2024 State Open Pairs Championships from 16th – 17th November. The top 14 pairs from the Saturday qualifying round advanced to the Sunday Finals – three of them qualified to the Sunday Final! The finalists Mick McAuliffe-Terry Palmer, Dagmar Neumann-Maurits van der Vlugt, and Wieslaw Przewozniak-Jerzy Szyszkowski competed in the Final round; Warren Lazer-Pauline Gumby missed out, and continued to compete in the Spring Swiss Pairs Congress.
Congratulations to the 2024 State Open Pairs winner Dagmar Neumann-Maurits van der Vlugt, who led the pack from the beginning till the end! Mick and Terry reached highest as 4th in the morning, but had a big set back in the afternoon. Some of our regular players entered directly to the event (because they didn’t play in the SBC qualifying events) and got good results – Neil William (Tuesday morning regular) qualified to the Final with his buddy Rob Holgate and came 5th, Liam Milne with his apprentice Julia Jo (Wednesday morning regular) came 7th in the Final.
There were quite a few youth players competing in the Spring Swiss Pairs Congress on Sunday Matt Smith and Adrian Le won the congress, Warren and Pauline came 2nd.
