There were 8 teams competing in the GNOT Direct Qualifier on Saturday 14th March 2026. We are pleased to see teams of experienced competitors and also challengers of rising club players – they are equally important to a healthy bridge eco-system!
Some challengers jumped out to an early lead – Team Hamam (Chris Hamam – Haris Hodzic – Andy Sunter – David Paul) placed themselves at 2nd after match 2 and Team Jackson (Karen Irvine – Michael Jackson – Denise Reid – Judy King) was once 4th! The experienced competitors returned to form and won steadily in the afternoon with Team Chen (Sherlock Shao – Patrick Jiang – Hui Li – Kelsey Chen) the start-to-finish leader.
Congratulations to:
Winner Team CHEN – Patrick Jiang, Sherlock Shao, Hui Li and Kelsey Chen. Their will now qualify directly to the National Final (online) in September.
2nd place Team GUMBY – David Wiltshire, Pauline Gumby, Bruce Neill and Warren Lazer will compete in the Metro Final (F2F) in August.
I overheard a conversation that Andy expressed his nervousness to Pauline, who kindly assured him. Also Judy King came to tell me how much she has learnt from playing in a high-level competition. This is SBC, we just have that little magic to bring people together 😉
