There are a lot of activities in Sydney Bridge Club for players of different levels and aspirations. On top of our regular bridge sessions, beginners courses and workshops, we also run special events throughout the year. Please refer to our Club Calendar for details.

🏆 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP (through the year)

The Sydney Bridge Club Individual Championships will start in January 2026. There will be monthly awards (The Most Improved Player of the Month) and annual prizes (Best Player of the Year), both have 5 divisions based on individual players’ masterpoints ranking. That means you may be a winner in your division for a mediocre result when you play in a more challenging session.  

Most Improved Player of the Month

  • You must play 3 times in the month in any qualifying OPEN MATCHPOINT session to qualify (at any of our venues).
  • The average percentage of your BEST 3 results will be used to calculate your result & compared to 6 months earlier.
  • This means the more sessions you play, the more chances to improve the BEST 3 results you have, as your worst results will be discarded.
  • To WIN the FREE GAME VOUCHER, you must be ranked by the ABF Masterpoint Centre in one of the categories at the start of the month.
  • Both members and visitors can win.

🚩 SYDNEY BRIDGE CENTRE CONGRESSES (10 this year) – RED masterpoints

Playing in congresses is one of the best ways to improve your game. We have planned 10 congresses this year, please enter via MyABF:

💜CHARITY EVENTS (April, September and December) – RED masterpoints

It is a great feeling to support other charities by playing bridge. We usually run 2-3 charity events to support people in need:

  • Cancer Council Morning Tea on 22nd April (usually a Wednesday in late April / early May)
  • Stroke Awareness Day in early September (usually the 2nd Tuesday)
  • The Smiths Family in Christmas Party in early December (usually the first Wednesday)

We have also supported Salvation Army, Alzheimer’s research at NeuRA and Jeans for Genes in the past.

🥇 STATE WIDE AND AUSTRALIA WIDE EVENTS (through the year)

GNOT Direct Qualifier and Club Heat (March and June) – GOLD Masterpoints

GNOT (Grand National Open Teams) is a premier Australia-wide bridge tournament conducted by the Australian Bridge Federation (ABF). It is a major event where players compete in local club heats and metro finals to qualify for a national with opportunities to win GOLD Masterpoints. SBC is one of the only two clubs who is granted to run Direct Qualifier in NSW.

  • SBC GNOT Direct Qualifier on 14th March 2026 (Saturday) [results]
  • SBC GNOT Club Heat over 3 Tuesday mornings on 9th, 16th and 23rd June 2026. Please also see Club Qualifying Events.

Australia-Wide Events (May, August and October) – GREEN and RED masterpoints

  • Australia-Wide Novice Pairs on 27th May 2026 (Wednesday)
  • Australia-Wide Open Pairs on 25th August 2026 (Thursday)
  • Australia-Wide Restricted Pairs on 30th October 2026 (Friday)

State-Wide Events (August and November) – GREEN and RED masterpoints

  • The State-Wide Pairs in August TBA (Tuesday)
  • The Under Hundred Masterpoints Pairs in late November (either Sunday or Wednesday)

Club Qualifying Events (March, May, June, July and August) – RED masterpoints

These are the events to be held in the club, over multiple sessions. RED masterpoints will be awarded in every Club Heat session (The GNOT Club Heat is the ONLY session that players can earn GOLD masterpoints in a club). The winning pair(s) or team(s) formed by the winning pairs will represent Sydney Bridge Club to compete in the State Finals, with the entry fee sponsored by the club.

  • State Mixed Pairs Qualifying events over 3 Tuesday mornings on 10th, 17th and 24th March 2026.
  • NEW State Pairs Selection events over 3 Tuesday nights on 5th, 12th & 19th May; and 3 Thursday mornings on 7th, 14th & 21st May (City and Ashfield TBA).
  • GNOT Club Heat over 3 Tuesday mornings on 9th, 16th and 23rd June 2026.
  • NEW State Teams Selection event over 3 Thursday mornings on 23rd, 30th July & 6th August 2026. (City and Ashfield TBA).
