SBC Xmas in Winter Congress Highlights

Proudly sponsored by Fixed Income Solutions, the SBC Xmas in Winter congress was a success – there were 24 tables in the Pairs event and 26 tables in Teams. There were some very quality players, up and coming stars and keen players who are new to congress.

Thanks to our hospitality heroes who prepared all the delicious goodies in two days – the home baked macadamia cookies, the White Christmas bites, gingerbread blondies and fruit cakes. The SBC volunteers are definitely spoiling us.

The Youth players shone in both days. Congratulations to:

Xmas in Winter Swiss Pairs

Overall 1st – Tania Lloyd and Hugh Grosvenor. Tania and Hugh are reputable bridge players, if you have played against them that day, you will learn a lot!

Overall 2nd – Andre Korenhof and Carola Hoogervorst. Another power couple in the bridge world! Andre is also the GNOT Metro Final organiser this year.

Overall 3rd – The restricted players Mary Hingerty and Rick Lu punched above their weight and snatched a spot on the podium!

1st Restricted & Novice Pair – David Zheng and Chris Hamam. David has shown consistent performance in the elite level, he will probably compete in category A in the future.

2nd Restricted & Novice Pairs – our regular players Paul and Julie Stark. They were also the winner of our very first Club Championships (Bronze Local – Bronze Regional) in 2024.

The Best Super Novice Pairs (<20MPs) – Martin Fitzpatrick and Lawrence Dryden. Martin is our regular Wednesday player and his buddy is from Peninsula Bridge Club.

Xmas in Winter Swiss Teams

Overall 1st – Mitch Dowling, Noah Klugman, Edward Li and Edmond Lee. They called their team Too Many Cooks, I think they should add a tail to the name “but it works”. The team won all 6 matches with impressive wins.

Overall 2nd – The elite team Ella Jacob, Hugh Grosvenor, Michael Courtney and Tania Lloyd.

Overall 3rd – Patrick Jiang and Kelsey Chen. Hui Li and Sherlock Shao absent. The team also qualified directly via the SBC GNOT DQE to the GNOT National Online Final.

Restricted & Novice 1st – our regular players Steve English and Michael Jackson. Ruth Fingret and Natalie Topper absent.

Restricted & Novice 2nd – more regular players on the podium Etty Matalon, Jim O’Donnell, Orsolina Aroney and Wayne Marriott.

Restricted & Novice 3rd – more familiar faces. Andy Sunter, Anne-Marie Kelly, John Fitzpatrick and Anna Siganto.
