FORCING or NOT? LIMITED or NOT? – Friday 17th April 2026

This half-day Education Seminar in the SBC clubroom (Friday 17/04/2026) will help answer the questions we all need to know when bidding.

A question one often asks oneself in an auction and just as often, one answers the question wrongly. When is partner’s bid forcing? What is their range?

We will firstly look at these questions in relation to the uncontested auction.

What are forcing and non-forcing opening bids?

What are forcing and non-forcing responses?

What are forcing and non-forcing rebids by opener?

How to force partner to bid again if they are limited?

We will then consider these areas in relation to the contested auction, when the opponents join in. A partnership should recognize that the interference by opponents can actually present you with some extra forcing bids that can be added to your armoury.

The session will include presentation notes, worked examples and practice boards. There will be a short Q&A session at the end.
