The Grand National Open Teams (GNOT) is a big event to be held annually through the year.
In NSW, the event is run in 3 lines – the Country line and the Metro line; PLUS an additional line via Direct Qualifying events. Sydney Bridge Club is honoured to be granted the right to run a Direct Qualifying event earlier this year, Team SydneyDQE (Shane Harrison – Jessica Brake – Dave Wiltshire – Stephen Williams) bypassed the Metro Final and progresses straight to the National Qualifier. The runner-up Team SBC Direct (Giselle Mundell – Andrew Peake – Peter Jeffery – Yumin Li) progresses to the Metro Final on 23-24 August 2025.
Like any other metro clubs, Sydney Bridge Club ran a Club Qualifying event to select teams to compete in the Metro Final. We ran the Club Qualifying Event in June/July. Two teams were selected to join the SBC Team Direct in the Metro Final – they are SBC 1 (Andy Sunter – David Paul – Cheryl Henke – Julie Hamilton) and SBC 2 (Marcia Scudder – Judy Mott – John Russell – Judy Parsons).
As at the time of writing, there are 27 teams representing different clubs competing in the GNOT Metro Final on 23-24 August. Five teams will qualify via the Metro Final and progress further.
Go Team SBC!
