More Ways to Improve your Bridge
We have a number of new initiatives in the works this year to enhance our education offering at SBC. In addition to our much loved workshops, we will be adding new Improver classes, Education Seminars, revamping our Supervised sessions, and rolling out many other great ideas to help you develop in your bridge journey.

Upcoming Education Seminars
For players looking for a chance to focus on a single topic in more detail, our new half-day Education Seminars will suit you. High Card Points is only one of the many methods in evaluating our hands. This month, Ian Lisle will run a NEW Education Seminars on the topic of “How Good is My Hand?”. Then in April, another seminar will focus on when is a bid Forcing or not Forcing, limited or not.

Next Workshops
Miscommunications can be costly at the table. At his next workshop this Friday, Will is going to decode the commonly misunderstood auctions with you and show you the solutions.

NEW Improvers I and II Classes
After they finish Beginners Classes, many of our students look for more structured learning opportunities to supplement their Supervised sessions and help them to progress. From end of March, students will be able to book into our new Improvers I class:
- City: 6 Monday mornings from 23rd March – 4th May, 10.00am – 12.30pm (No lesson on Easter Monday 6th April).
- City: 6 Tuesday nights from 31st March – 5th May, 7.00pm – 9.30pm
- Ashfield: 6 Thursday mornings from 26th March – 30th April, 10.00am – 12.30pm
$159 for each course, notes included. Please enrol via SBC website.
NEW: Are you looking for a NEW PARNTER?
A recent message from our Chair outlined some of the many new services we are developing to help you find a partner, including the new partnership-desk@SydneyBridgeClub.org.au email address, as well as a new WhatsApp group. Don’t forget, we also have a special MEMBERS ONLY event coming up, which will give you a chance to meet other people who are also looking for a new regular partner. It will be a social game without a director, and no masterpoints will be awarded. Bookings essential.

Opportunity to Represent SBC
RED SBC Mixed Pairs Qualifier
The State Mixed Pairs Club Qualifying event has started this morning with 16 full tables! Only 2 best out of 3 results counted – so it’s not too late to join us from the next two Tuesdays.
The State Mixed Pairs Club Qualifying event will be run:
- Over 3 Tuesday mornings on 10th, 17th & 24th March @ City, 10.00am – 1.15pm
RED masterpoints. All are welcome. However, to qualify, you must play at least two times in the same regular session with the same partner of opposite gender. Only 2 best out of 3 results counted! We will sponsor 1 winning pair to represent us to compete in the State Mixed Pairs Championship Final from 16th – 17th May at our clubroom.
Extra $2 table money fee. No need to enter in advance.
GOLD GNOT Direct Qualifier
The SBC GNOT Direct Qualifier is the ONLY face-to-face GNOT Direct Qualifying event in NSW. GOLD masterpoints awarded. The event will naturally attract premier players, if you are looking for high level competition, this is for you!
The SBC GNOT Direct Qualifier will be held one-day on Saturday 14th March 2026. The event will qualify one team directly to the GNOT National Qualifying (online) from 18th – 20th September 2026. The GNOT National Final will be held F2F in Brisbane from 27th – 29th November (plus a Plate event running F2F alongside for open entries).
One-seventh of the field of the SBC GNOT Direct Qualifier will also qualify to the GNOT Sydney Metropolitan Final (F2F) in Sydney Bridge Centre from 22nd – 23rd August.

Special Events and Congresses
RED Cancer Council Morning Tea
The Cancer Council Morning Tea is one of our annual charity game. This year, we are going to host the Morning Tea Party on Wednesday 22nd April 2026. Please join in the fun, and if you are able to, we encourage you to bring a plate – no need to be big, something small from all of us will make this a big party! A small loaf of cake, a handful of biscuits, and anything you think is special.
RED masterpoints. Extra $2 table money fee in the Open section. (In Supervised, it will be the usual price). SBC will donate $3 for each player plus all Raffle proceeds to Cancer Council.
Raffle Draw tickets and teacup cookies are available to purchase in the clubroom soon. All takings go to Cancer Council.
RED Easter Monday Teams congress
Easter is just round the corner! It’s always a great game playing in teams – your teammates play your opponents’ hand in another table. The comparison of scores between the two directions on the same hand is an interesting experience that you don’t usually get in club regular sessions.
SBC Easter Monday Swiss Teams [Flyer]
- Date: Monday 6th April 2026
- Time: 10.00am – 5.00pm
- Venue: Level 1, 162 Goulburn Street, Surry Hills
- Entry Fee: $70 per person. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, and a delicious light lunch included. Also join us for an end of congress drink.
We plan to run 2 separate fields for Open and Novice & Restricted players. That means you will be playing in your own league. Choose the field you would like to play in when enter. For Novice Teams, each player of the team must have fewer than 100 masterpoints as at 1st January 2026. For Restricted Teams, each player of the team must have fewer than 300 masterpoints as at 1st January 2026.
Cash prizes will be awarded, dependant on entry number. Enter in advance is required. Please form a team of 4-6 and enter via MyABF. If you need teammates, please contact office for match making.
Easter Hours
Please note that there will be NO sessions in the City during Easter weekend on Friday or Sunday:
- Good Friday 3rd April: City is CLOSED, no Friday afternoon game
- Easter Saturday 4th April: Henley is OPEN, 1.30pm – 4.30pm
- Easter Sunday 5th April: City is CLOSED, no Sunday afternoon game
- Easter Monday 6th April: City is OPEN for SBC Easter Monday Teams congress. Note that there will be no regular duplicate session this day, ONLY the congress.
