SBC Novice & Restricted Pairs Congress Highlights

Today we hosted our very first congress dedicated entirely to Novice and Restricted players! We had a fantastic turnout with 19 tables in play.

The field was incredibly diverse. Experience levels ranged from players with fewer than 2 masterpoints to seasoned restricted players about to move into the Open field. Age was no barrier either, with several youth players competing alongside a gentleman celebrating his 90th birthday!

It was a day of exciting firsts, featuring brand-new partnerships and many players attending their first-ever congress. We are thrilled to hear that everyone felt so welcome at SBC. Thank you to all who joined us!

A massive thank you to the newer players who stepped up to be our house pairs today. An extra big shout-out to those who answered my last-minute calls yesterday! We truly couldn’t have run such a smooth congress without your help.

Congratulations to:

Overall 1st – David Zheng and Shannon Ooi. The pair had a rough start and was 5th coming to the last round, overtaking the daylong first placed pair at the end!

Overall 2nd – Julie Hamilton and Teresa Wilson. Both are our regular players – one from the City one from Ashfield. The two were put together by the organiser. The two clicked from the very beginning (Organiser’s remark “phew~”) and had been steadily shining the whole day.

Overall 3rd – Christine Ingate and Terence Finnegan. Another pair with steady performance. They had been on the top 5 from the start.

1st Novice Pair (<100MPs) – Haijin Zou and Liping Yu. Our regular players from Ashfield.

2nd Novice Pair (<100MPs) – Julie Whittaker and Lynne Walsh with our director John McIlrath.

The Best Super Novice Pairs (<50MPs) – Kirsten van den Berg and Murray Colderick. How nice to see a pair on podium come from one of our sponsorships Peninsula Bridge Club! Peninsula is hosting a Starter Congress in August. SBC and Peninsula will sponsor one pair to the congress.

The Best Super Novice Pairs (<25MPs) – Jane Zhang and Xin-Sheng Zhu. They will be sponsored by SBC to enter the Starter Congress hosted by Peninsula Bridge Club.
